HAITI - La Perle des Antilles

I stumbled onto Bob Corbett's Course while doing some research on Haiti's history. My intentions were to put together a brief History and some little known facts, as well as some relevant information, that may or may not (depending on who you speak with) have had an impact in shaping Haiti into, what is today, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. It is imperative for all Haitians to know the influencing events and factors in Haiti’s development along with the contributing factors in her digression.

In order for Haiti to flourish once more and become a self sustained country, Haitians must first realize they played a major role in their own downfall and take corrective measures to ensure the past does not, first and foremost, repeat itself, and secondly, get in the way of a new and brighter future.

There are some good people, both Haitians and not, putting fort tremendous effort to help rebuild Haiti’s economic and social state of affairs. They can not do it alone; all Haitian’s must do their part if Haiti is to, not only survive, but thrive as a Nation.
Haiti has a rich and unique culture. It has endured atrocities and devastations. It has achieved great exploits and deeds. It has contributed greatly to the world and is an important figure in the Caribbean’s past, present, and certainly, future well being. None of this, however, makes a difference if Haitians do not speak up and enlighten the world to what we have endured; what we have overcome; what we have accomplished; what we have contributed; what we have achieved; and what we have, as yet, to attain.

So read, learn, understand and appreciate Haiti with all its flaws and imperfections and help usher in the new Haiti; the Haiti that was always meant to be, La Perle des Antilles (The Caribbean Pearl).
